Who She Is
Mem Fox has a lot of experience behind her. She has worked at a University for many years, teaching teachers how to teach reading. Fox was born in Australia, and now lives there with her husband and her daughter.
Some of Her Success

Fox is known as Australia's most highly regarded picture book author, and her status in the United States is great too. Her books "Time for Bed" and "Wilfred Gordon McDonald Partridge" have each sold over 1 million copies.

Fox has written somewhere around 35 books, and claims it takes her anywhere from 7 minutes to 7 years to write a book! She says she usually writes three to four books at a time, although they are not always "good enough" for publication.
But Fox knows the importance of using the perfect words, and then of course, writing and rewriting, over and over, until every word is perfect!
Possum Magic was her first book, and it was published in 1983, and her most recent book is A Particular Cow.
Her Inspiration
Fox says her ideas come from "real life, books, and feelings of the deepest kind." She says that she has always been the "writing sort of person." She began writing stories at a young age, writing long entries in her diary, and she also enjoyed writing letters.
Fox recommends that you read hundreds of hundreds of books and poems if you want to write. She said, "Only reading teaches you how to write."
Mem Fox refers to her writing as her second love: her main passion lies in her teaching. Her presentations urge parents, teachers, and others, to read aloud to children aged 0-5. It can make all the difference in their world!
Even More Wisdom
Her book, Reading Magic is aimed at parents of very young children. Pick up a copy to learn even more amazing "reading wisdom" from Mem Fox.
