That incense is hot POP and she fell.”
About the Preschool Book
Becka’s big bubble gives preschoolers once again a thrilling ride, this time to a faraway land! From the Himalayas to the Taj Mahal, through Mumbai (formerly Bombay) and Jaipur, we are invited to tour and learn about the marvelous country of India and its unique culture. Captivating rhymes and colorful full-page illustrations invite us into Becka’s world as we share in her adventurous flight to India! From the Reviewer – Joanna Young
Who can turn an ordinary day into a fantastic adventure simply by blowing bubbles? Becka can! As she “closed her eyes and imagined what to do, she blew and blew and blew and blew…”, her big bubble carries her all the way across the ocean to India! Becka’s joyfully animated facial expressions invite preschoolers to join in her excitement as she takes us on a sightseeing tour of India, teaching us all about this rich culture. Adventurous
Only the imagination can give us an adventurous flight on a big bubble, but Becka has imagination big enough for preschoolers everywhere! Through Becka’s eyes, we begin our flight through the first pages of the book. A beautiful, hazy blue scene of the Himalayas greets us as we descend into India. What sights await us?Quite by accident, the heat of burning incense pops the bubble and down Becka goes! But don’t worry. A group of new friends from India catch her! They welcome Becka and begin to take her through their country, introducing her (and us) to a cultural learning experience.
Educational
More than likely, our preschoolers have never heard of the Taj Mahal. But Becka Goes to India enlightens and entertains us with new knowledge of this exotic country. Besides the white marble structure of the Taj Mahal, we move “onto Jaipur, the lovely pink city, hand crafted pots and carpets so pretty.” A side note explains that Jaipur is a city known for its celebration of the kite festival. In the background, we see kites flying through the sky. Becka is invited into the home of an India resident. Dining on the floor, a feast of rich ethnic food before her, “she dipped bread in dips, dips they call Dahl. Each more spicy, Becka tried them all.” Afterwards, we’re treated to a lovely Hindu wedding where the bride is decked out in fancy attire and lovely jewelry. Both she and the groom are barefooted!
Becka spots a picture of Gandhi and learns that “he fought without fists”. While contemplating this peaceful fighter, she begins to hear music! Two people are playing the tabla (a drum) and the sitar (a long-necked guitar). As Becka and her new friends from India are dancing, the rich music causes yet another big bubble to appear!
It’s time to leave this unusual and exotic land for home to see Mom and Dad. “Pippity-pop! With the flick of her nail to the ground she sailed…What a day it had been!”
