From the Reviewer - Joanna Young

Once again, we and our preschoolers are invited along on Becka’s big bubble to visit another fantastic destination, this time to the Golden Gate City—San Francisco! And once more, we become captivated with the marvelously illustrated pages of the third in the Becka and the Big Bubble series, one that is sure to become a favorite of preschoolers everywhere.

Exciting

As Becka and Ben set sail on their gloriously big bubble, a sea gull comes along and pops the bubble! Becka and Ben are sent hurtling to the sea, but fortunately land in a fisherman’s boat. From there the adventure begins as the two travelers reach the pier and enjoy delicacies such as lobsters, chocolate and seafood chowder in edible bread bowls. Strolling along, they meet sea lions at the end of the wharf, volleyball players and suntanners on Marina Boulevard and friendly hippies on Haight-Asbury Street.

The adventure continues as the two children take a ride on a cable car where they get a good view of “the majestic Coit Tower” and we learn that it was once used as a fire lookout. Moving on, Becka and Ben don their roller skates and whiz down Lombard Street through lovely buildings and homes. Together, the two discover that San Francisco is quite a grand place to visit!

Enlightening

Becka becomes so enthralled while skating through Golden Gate Park that she runs right smack into a big tree! But this is no ordinary tree. This old redwood speaks to Becka and Ben, teaching them a valuable lesson: “People keep growing in different ways. Open your eyes, love, learn, and play.” The friendly tree then whisks the children up to view the land and sea around them, telling them, “All of this is part of you and me.”

The adventure comes to a close as the good-natured tree helps Becka and Ben make a new bubble upon which to sail back home to Mom and Dad. “Pippity-pop! With the flick of her nail, to the ground she sailed. What a day it had been!”
