About Be Mine, Be Mine, Sweet Valentine
No matter what kind of animal you are, there is a Valentine’s gift for you! Each two-page spread introduces a new animal and a gift for its sweet Valentine. The lift-a-flap style encourages preschoolers to guess what the Valentine’s Day gift will be.
From the Reviewer – Charlene Haukom
Be Mine, Be Mine, Sweet Valentine is great for the full preschool age range. My daughter, 4, enjoyed the repetition and simple words. The simple text combined with the illustrations allowed her to read the book without my help. My son, 2, liked the fun rhyming text and the secret illustrations hidden beneath the flaps.
Be Mine, Be Mine, Sweet Valentine’s Repetitive Text
The text in Be Mine, Be Mine, Sweet Valentine is simple and repetitive, which is perfect for preschoolers that are learning to read. The repetition helps with word recognition, which is a critical pre-reading skill. Each 2-page spread repeats the same verse format and rhyme scheme which lets preschoolers know what’s coming next. Younger preschoolers will also enjoy the simple text, rhythm and repetition.

Preschoolers that are learning to read are able to use the illustrations to fill in the gaps, or “guess” the text they are unable to read. Younger preschoolers will be drawn to the simplicity and sweet nature of the animals.
Be Mine, Be Mine, Sweet Valentine’s Playful Tone
The overall tone of Be Mine, Be Mine, Sweet Valentine is playful fun. The animals are clearly having a good time whether they are digging for a bone, chasing dragonflies, or hunting for clams.
